Cancer patients can face legal challenges related to their work, insurance, disability, and family. If you are facing difficulties with your insurance or employer or have other legal concerns, there may be laws to protect your interests. Ask your social worker for information about local resources.
Cancer Legal Resource Center
A program run by the Disability Rights Legal Center and Loyola Law School. The CLRC has a national, toll-free line (1-866-THE-CLRC) that provides callers from around the country with confidential, free information and resources for their situation. The group does not represent callers in lawsuits, but if that is needed, they can refer to legal representation. The CLRC can address many issues, including health, disability, and life insurance, employment discrimination, tenant rights, custody issues, immigration, and financial resources.

Triage Cancer
Provides educational resources to cancer patients/survivors around a variety of issues including health insurance coverage, finances, and employment. Offers in-person training at various locations around the country, throughout the year.

This organization is the go-to for anyone struggling with balancing work and cancer. If you are having concerns with your employer regarding disability, FMLA, reasonable accommodations, and other legal rights related to cancer, Cancer and Careers can provide information and resources.

A comprehensive online resource for free information about workplace rights, as well as referrals for employment attorneys.
LawHelp.org
Provides assistance for finding legal aid programs for people with low and moderate incomes. It also can answer questions about legal rights and help with forms related to legal issues.
Patient Advocate Foundation
A national organization that helps patients gain access to care, maintain employment and preserve financial stability while dealing with their cancer diagnosis. While not technically a "legal resource", they have a wealth of information about insurance and financial issues.

National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership
Medical-legal partnerships (MLP’s) are an affiliation between a law firm(s) and a healthcare provider, clinic or hospital. The firm offers legal services to patients in need at the centers they have a partnership with. This organization maintains a searchable database of MLP’s nationwide.
