Breast tomosynthesis, or 3D mammography, is a technique using X-rays to produce a three dimensional picture of the breast. This method results in fewer callbacks, repeat testing and biopsies and is also better able to detect cancers than traditional 2D mammogram.
When breast cancer is diagnosed, the tumor tissue is tested for several “biomarkers”, which are substances or abnormalities that can be detected in the tumor tissue and used to predict prognosis and guide treatment recommendations.
An MRI of the breast can give healthcare providers more facts about breast health that cannot be seen on mammogram or ultrasound and is used along with mammogram for breast cancer screening.
