My name is Richard Harvey. In April of 2005, I was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called Xanthoastrocytoma in my right temporal lobe. My medical treatments have included brain surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. I have also worked with an acupuncturist/Chinese medicine doctor. Much of my time and thought process since my initial diagnosis has been focused on living each day to the fullest and focusing on the positive outcomes I want in my healing and my life. Through the course of my continuing treatments, my residual tumor area has continued to shrink.

Recently I have been enjoying creative writing and participating in a Wellness Community survivor group and a Simonton-based support group/class called Beat the Odds. I recommend these types of support groups to anyone who is surviving after a cancer diagnosis or supporting a survivor.

Words of advice: Never give up! Ask and you might just get what you want. To loosely quote Mark Twain; "There are three kinds of lies. Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics." Miracles happen every day.

These are some of the poems I have written on my journey...

Calming the Cyclone
Manifested Best
Prognosis
