Vaginal dysplasia after cervical dysplasia

Ultima Vez Modificado: 14 de septiembre del 2003

Question

Dear OncoLink "Ask The Experts,"
I had a total hysterectomy in 1999 for persistent CIN III, despite 2 LEEPs. The post-op cervical biopsy failed to reveal "clear borders." My subsequent vaginal biopsies have all returned with "inflammatory changes" until last month, when it showed vaginal dysplasia. What treatment is advised for this?

Answer

Christina S. Chu, MD, Assistant Professor of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, responds:

Vaginal dysplasia may occur in patients treated for cervical dysplasia or cervical cancer. A prior history of cervical dysplasia does not affect treatment recommendations for new vaginal dysplasia. Treatment options include excision, laser ablation, or application of topical 5-fluorouracil cream.
