Question

What is the recovery like after getting a brain tumor removed? How long will it take to recovery from surgery and how long will I be out of work? Will I need to have some kind of rehab therapy?

Lisa Lycksell MSN, CRNP Nurse Practitioner at Penn Medicine, responds:

Answer

Recovery after brain tumor surgery is all dependent on the extent of the surgery. It depends on the location of the tumor and how deep the surgeon has to go to remove the amount that is maximally safe. We usually tell our patients, who we think won't be left with a deficit, that they should be out of work for 4-6 weeks. Rehab therapy is all dependent on how the surgery goes and if there is a deficit after surgery was performed.
