Talking to Your Employer About Cancer Diagnosis

The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing
Ultima Vez Modificado: 13 de diciembre del 2011

Question

Can you help me in how to talk to my employer about my diagnosis?

Answer

Jodi Sandos, MSW, LSW, Oncology Social Worker at Penn Medicine, responds:

It a good idea to know your options for employment whether or not you choose to work through your treatment. Many people continue to work through their treatment, while other people decide to take tame off from their job. It is good to be open with your employer about what you will need through your treatment and if you will need any accommodations. For people that have 50 or more employers there is the option for the Family Medical Leave Act. That will protect your job for 12 weeks either paid or unpaid depending if you have sick or vacation time accrued.
