The Journey Halts photography - alternative processes, copper, heat transfer onto fabric, stitching 11 x 17 inches 1994

I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the summer of 1990. I did not have complete response from treatment, but for five years now I have been living a normal, active life in spite of the low-grade lymphoma. Working on my photography allows me to continue living and distracts from my immobilizing thoughts, which were so prevalent early in my diagnosis. While I don't set out to produce a piece reflecting my health experiences, I find that, as I title images, my cancer experiences subtly and subconsciously influence my work.

Only a cancer diagnosis alerts one along life's journey to "stop." Time stands still. One hopes for a "detour" sign and not a "stop."
