Self Portrait During Treatment "Phaze"
Pastel on paper
24 3/4 x 18 inches
1989
Catalog No. 35

In July 1988, I discovered a lump that turned out to be cancerous. I was going through chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer when I decided to do this self-portrait. The treatments made me feel very wired and I couldn't sit for very long. But being involved in painting, in the act of drawing, was somehow comforting.
