The community tile project allows patients to express their creativity, by painting a ceramic tile during visits to the Cancer Center. Once completed, usually within a half hour, the patients' tiles are fired in a pottery kiln here on campus and are displayed on the portable wall for a month. Patients enjoy the creative process, which can enable them to release the stress often encountered during the treatment process. The tile project celebrates both the individual and the collective journey of our patients and their families.

The Art Program is a free service of the The Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. It is made available to cancer patients in the outpatient hematology-oncology practice and inpatient units. We welcome donations to cover the expenses for art materials. If you are interested in making a donation, please call Gianna Volpe, Artist-in-Residence, at 614-1985.

Below are examples of patients' tiles. Click on any tile to see a larger version of it.
