Volunteer Education and Service Program

Volunteers are central to the mission of Penn Wissahickon Hospice. Hospice volunteers play a vital role in helping to bring comfort and care to terminally ill hospice patients and their families. Volunteers provide emotional support, companionship and offer respite opportunities for caregivers. They also run errands, assist with transportation, read books and writes letters for patients.

Volunteers are needed to assist patients throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. Penn Wissahickon Hospice volunteers are trained through a course designed by the National Hospice Organization (NHO). Classes address communication and listening skills, attitudes toward death, hospice philosophy, family concerns and other topics.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping to bring comfort and loving care to those in need. Anyone interested in becoming a Penn Wissahickon Hospice volunteer can attend a training course prescribed by the National Hospice Organization. Day and evening programs are scheduled throughout the year in the Greater Philadelphia region. Volunteers are needed to assist hospice patients in the neighborhoods in which they live. Volunteers are especially needed in the North, Northeast, South and West Philadelphia communities. Penn Wissahickon Hospice also needs volunteers in many communities in Delaware and Chester Counties.
