In 1994, during a routine gynecological exam, an ovary was found to be enlarged. Both ovaries were confirmed as cancerous during the ensuing surgery. While recuperating from the surgery, I began making small hand-sewn books. These books enabled me to fill my time productively and with an eye to the future and a positive attitude.

The use of children's images started while receiving chemotherapy and was prompted by the special relationship I developed with my daughter during that difficult time. I continued with myartwork when my energy allowed, making paper and incorporating photographic images, paper patterns and metal objects, which I allowed to rust and stain the paper.

In Spoons, of the children in the image (myself, a cousin and two friends), I am the only survivor. The others were lost to cancer, a heart attack and an automobileaccident.

Jan 20, 2012 - The PAM4-antigen immunoassay detects approximately two-thirds of patients with stage 1 pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma; and use of spatial-domain low-coherence quantitative phase microscopy accurately distinguishes non-dysplastic intestinal metaplasia from high-grade dysplasia or esophageal adenocarcinoma in patients with Barrett's esophagus, according to two studies presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium, held from Jan. 19 to 21 in San Francisco.
