Bonnie Pastel 16 x 20 inches 1992

I began painting in 1991, shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Once I began to paint, my cancer numbers slowly began to normalize. Often I would begin on a piece in the morning and be surprised that hours had passed. My sense of accomplishment helped my self-confidence and my treatment. This pastel was one of my first works on my own, and it was exhilarating to my spirit.

Six months ago my greatest supporter, my husband of 40 years, died. I truly believe that, along with my strong faith in God, filling my lonely hours with art has helped sustain me in the cancer battle and the battle for life itself.
